Kent Police believe man stopped on hard shoulder to refuel his car and was hit by lorry
A Belgian lorry driver has been arrested after a man was killed following a collision on the M20.
Police believe the driver of a Citroen Saxo was hit by the foreign lorry after stopping on the hard shoulder to refuel his car.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers were called to the incident at 6.51pm on Monday and the section of road between junctions 8 and 9 (Maidstone and Ashford) coast-bound was closed.
Traffic was diverted along the A20. The Serious Collision Investigation Team attended and carried out an examination of the scene. The road reopened around 11.30pm
The lorry driver, who is of Belgian nationality, was arrested and taken to a police station for questioning.
Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the collision at around 6.45pm.
Officers would also like to hear from anyone who saw a white lorry driving coast-bound on the M20 prior to the incident.
Anyone who saw anything that may help officers should call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit Witness Appeal line on 01622 798538.
