A Nissan car has hit a foreign truck on the hard shoulder
An HGV has been hit by a car on the hard shoulder of the M2 motorway.
The serious collision happened at 9.10am this morning on the coastbound carriageway between junctions four and five (the Gillingham and Sittingbourne turnoffs).
The white foreign registered heavy goods vehicle with a red cab was stationary on the hard shoulder when a car, a black Nissan Qashqai, appears to have run into the back of it.
Emergency services attended the scene along with the air ambulance. The M2 was closed in both directions so that the air ambulance could use the London bound carriageway to land and take off. The driver of the car has serious injuries and has been taken to a London hospital.
The Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Kent Police would like to speak to anyone who saw this collision, or the events leading up to it, and would ask anyone with information to call 01622 798538.
Motorists are advised to avoid the coastbound section of the M2 between junctions 5 and 4 for the next couple of hours and divert to the M20 where possible as there are significant delays in the area.
Lane two of the coastbound carriageway has been opened and traffic is moving whilst the London bound carriageway has been completely opened.
