Faversham tennis court wins game, set and match

Councillors cried fault when they rejected a plea from neighbours of a proposed tennis court who claimed the noise of the ball would ruin their summer.

Officials voted overwhelmingly in favour of the court at a house in Bethel Row, Faversham, at a meeting of the planning committee on Thursday, March 4.

The Grade 2 listed building lies within the Kent Downs area of outstanding natural beauty.

One objector said: “I’ve lived here 13 years I’m just a stone’s throw away from the proposed tennis court. Playing tennis will cause a nuisance factor especially if I have to hear it bouncing when I’m sitting in my garden during the summer.”

The applicant agreed to sink the court deeper into the ground and plant hedging to muffle any stray sound of the balls.
